This Sunday, September 6th, 2015 – The Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Thursday, September 3rd, 2015

This Sunday is the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost and “Confession, Repentance, and Commitment to End Racism Sunday” at St. JME. Associate in Youth Ministry Nadine Cordes will preach.

In response to a statement and call to action from the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME), the Presiding Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton has pledged the 3.8 million-member ELCA to participate in “Confession, Repentance, and Commitment to End Racism Sunday” on September 6, 2015.

The AME Church, together with the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, are calling “every church, temple, mosque and faith communion” to “confess and repent from the sin of racism” September 6 during their respective worship. Faith leaders worldwide are being asked to preach about racism and engage as “people of faith to end racism.”

“I believe we are experiencing a kairotic moment,” writes Bishop Eaton. “Something is happening in our church and in our country. Many of us are hearing and seeing in ways we haven’t before, and we are motivated to take action. Participating in ‘Confession, Repentance, and Commitment to End Racism Sunday’ is a start.”
