It’s been a busy week at Lake Wobe… oops, I mean, at St. John-St. Matthew-Emanuel. The details are a bit more than I have strength to go into, but suffice it to say that a renovation project in the Social Hall went in a few directions nobody expected, and a lot of people got a chance to be VERY flexible, amidst one of the hottest weeks of the year.
The church worshiped up stairs for one more Sunday… the AA group twice met in the sanctuary, one time without benefit of the regular lights… and the staff of the Senior Center somehow managed to keep sending meals to the home-bound, as well as providing take-home lunches to the folks who come to the Center in person.
It was not easy, and it was not necessarily much fun at the time, but we carried on, and a way was made out of no way, in the spirit of Hagar, Ishmael’s mother.
I confess to being ready for a respite. A few hours after this issue goes to print, Judy and Liv and I depart for a week devoted to doing nothing except enjoying each others’ company.
In closing, I want to say farewell and Godspeed to Crystal Cooper, who is “retiring” as our (part-time) office administrator. She is not going far– she will be the new (full-time) office manager at the Senior Center. We give thanks for her service here, and wish her well in her new position.
